Welcome to the New VSN Homepage

Yes, it’s another change for Varsity Sports Now. Welcome to our new homepage.

Before I explain the reason we created this new experience, let me give a brief history lesson as to where we have been.

When we launched Varsity Sports Now in October of 2018 our goal was to create a multi-media sports experience combining written journalism with a strong video experience. The video side was to continue the work I was doing as a producer of sports docuseries and documentaries. Broadcasting games via live streaming was just supposed to be a supplementary option for content.

But when we saw the response to our first few live games which were both high school football playoff games, we quickly found out what the term “pivot” was for startups like VSN.

In 2019 we devoted all of our resources to live streaming games across the state. By the time the fall sports season began that year, VSN was live streaming a high school football game of the week in eight markets (Shreveport, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, the Bayou area, River Parishes, North Shore, and New Orleans).

We use the term broadcast live streaming to differentiate what VSN was producing as opposed to other national live streaming companies that were simply using one automated camera to cover the entire field and many times had no announcers and still calling it a live stream. That was a far cry what our BROADCAST live streams looked like.

We treat all of VSN’s broadcast live streams like they were a TV broadcast. We use multiple cameras, replays, a play-by-play announcer, and a color commentator to give that broadcast feel to each of our games.

So from there, we began broadcast live streaming many other sports like volleyball and lacrosse and also began partnering directly with schools to live stream a set number of games.

Over the past five years we grew our broadcast live streaming schedule, the number of schools we were partnering with, and also added content like podcasts.

During that time, we phased out our written journalism and became what’s known as an OTT which stands for over-the-top. That basically boils down to this; we were skipping the middle man and delivering all of our content directly to the consumer for a subscription fee.

As we continue to evolve as a company our team has decided to put emphasis on a new homepage where we could once again deliver written content, but also create a more complete user experience. A one-stop-shop if you will to find links to VSN’s most recent broadcast live streams, social media platforms, and even photo galleries.

We are excited about this new venture and we hope you are too.
